Welcome to a new feature at World Football Columns. Every so often, we will offer up something from the sublime and ridiculous side of football and give you a chance to Sound Off with your opinion.
Sound Off on the Battle of the Big Shoe Adverts
The World Cup is here and like any other celebration or holiday it is being commercialized to the max! Nike and Adidas, the two athletic apparel giants have led the way with ambitious full length advertisements featuring a full cast of athletic and celebrity shills.
Nike’s “Write The Future” is an epic match featuring a litany of World class players literally changing the future with each successive spectacular play. While the big Swoosh looked ahead, Adidas sent their personalities deep into the past to a galaxy far, far away, where they encounter some strangely familiar characters.
Take a look at both of them here and Sound Off on which you think was worth the look.

Love the Nike one – that got my vote!

Posted by mpalazzotto | 13 June, 2010, 19:37Nike for me too. Adidas one has nothing to do with the World Cup.
Posted by geoffedwards | 13 June, 2010, 21:58They made the ball – unfortunately they've not received very good press from that. Some players have said that the ball is terrible and I think the free-kicks have maybe added value to those criticisms…
Posted by Steven Jones | 13 June, 2010, 22:21No-one has voted for Adidas yet…
Posted by Steven Jones | 14 June, 2010, 22:37The Adidas one was a little pointless. I found it ironic that it quoted celebrating originality, yet used the much plundered Star Wars imagery for its basis!
Also, like you say Geoff, the Adidas one hardly related at all to the World Cup!
