Also, with youth games, and women’s games, often happening before the main matches you often get exciting double headers for the price of your ticket (which is normally about 10 pounds), the whole experience becomes a good value proposition for the football loving punter whilst giving valuable exposure to the undercards. I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t travel to another stadium just for a youth or women’s match but will happily turn up early to see them.

I’d be very surprised now to see a collegic system introduced, the distances involved would be too great for a university budget I suspect.

However Brian McFadden hosts a TV show where young footballers compete to win an A-League contract. That’s really another story, but tckles me pink.

That’s interesting about the youth development. I have read the collegic system in MLS (as I feel A-League will have to undergo the same development) is a real restriction as an American ‘youngster’ is about 22/23 as opposed to somebody in South America/Europe who is 16/17.

A massive headstart and something if the A-League does right will surely reap the rewards, especially with their reputation with their strong rugby and cricket development systems.
